he Unknown Soldier Square is located in Rethymno, on the National Road. Makarios and at the site where one of the gates of the city walls once existed, the Sulfur Gate. It was named the square of the Unknown Soldier because of the statue of the same name that is located in its center and was built there in 1930, the unveiling of which was made by Eleftherios Venizelos. The statue is the point of uniting the waterfront with the new beach of the city.
